he people of greater Boston have always needed to get themselves
and their goods from Here to There.
The building of canals and barges made the movement of goods
faster and easier in the 19th century.
In the 20th century the automobile influenced the development
of the region’s cities and suburbs, provided mobility,
and became a means of recreation.
The combustion engine has also allowed us to develop and
improve the fire fighting equipment making the fire engine
faster and easier to get fireman to a fire and to get a blaze
under control.
The museums on this trail feature variety of modes of transportation
and look at how we have gotten from Here to There over the
course of our history.
